The Zebra Starfighter is a basic and inexpensive starfighter that is easy to maintain and pilot. While this two-centreline engine fighter is not very durable, its heavy laser cannons are potent. Although its weapons are intended to permit attacks upon well-armoured targets, in reality the Zebra's lack of speed and missile weapons reduces its overall effectiveness; even against immobile surface installations. To counter its speed deficiency, the Zebra must be employed in large quantities. In order to get this fighter from one engagement to another, a carrier is required to transport it through hyperspace. The Zebra has seen use in piracy, mercenary activities, and by criminals needing to protect their bases (examples include the Tenloss Syndicate controlled Vergesso Asteroids Shadowport). Organizations such as the Virgillian Free Alignment (which is backed by the Rebellion), and Qektoth Confederation are also known to employ the Zebra Starfighter. A number of years following the establishment of New Order this was the best starfighter many non-Imperial forces could acquire. By the period when X-Wings and like fighters were more attainable, the Zebra was relegated to second-line status. |
