The Hapan Battle Dragon is an unforgettable stretched double-saucer design that has been serving the Hapan Consortium since at least before the Battle of Yavin. Befitting the wealthy, isolationist, and militarily powerful Hapan Consortium is this warship. In the Hapan zealousness to guard their borders from intrusion, these ships were known to operate just outside their territory in order to achieve that goal. Effectively, these ships form the backbone of the Hapan fleet. No less than 63 ships are known to exist, one for each planet in the Hapes Cluster. Four years after the Battle of Endor, the Galaxy at large was given the spectacle of a large gathering of these vessels over the skies of Coruscant during Prince Isolder's attempt to woo Princess Leia for her hand in marriage. Mounted on the rotating rims of the double-saucers are the Battle Dragon's 40 turbolasers and 40 ion cannons; which gives this warship a 360-degree arc of fire. This system was conceived to overcome the weakness of Hapan turbolaser technology, which recharge three times slower than comparable Imperial models. After being fired, the turbolaser is rapidly rotated out and a ready gun takes its place; meanwhile the discharged weapon takes its time recharging. Although this system permits the Battle Dragon to fire on par with Imperial warships, the Hapans consider their system superior in achieving high rates of fire against selected targets. Hapan weapons however, suffer from low accuracy. In keeping with their arcane firing methods and their weapons' limited firing range, each Battle Dragon is equipped with only four targeting computers. Banks of the ship's weapons are linked to each computer. Thus, no more than four vessels can be fired upon simultaneously. Against a single target this arrangement delivers pinpoint accuracy, however, accuracy declines as more targets are added. According to Hapan military thought, this system is not a weakness, but rather a strength as it allows fire to be concentrated upon those limited number of targets, and thus can be quickly annihilated. In the event that groups of ships must be engaged, a Battle Dragon must release a sheet of fire from all weapons at a single vector and pray that significant hits will be achieved. Such expenditures of energy are visibly noticeable to the crew, as interior lighting darkens and emergency lights activate. The primary reason for this lays in the fact that these vessels are plagued with power shortage problems that are brought about by their insufficient power generators. Another consequence of their employed system, is that the Hapans are compelled to commit a large number of Battle Dragons from their already enormous pool to ensure victorious engagements. During these engagements, all ships normally concentrate their fire on no more than four vessels. Stealing the secrets of the Interdictor's gravity well projector technology, Hapan scientists devised the pulse mass generator tube, which fires mines that work on a similar principle to the gravity well projector. The mines visually appear to be large silver orbs. When deployed, no one, including the Hapans is able to escape from the battle zone by jumping into hyperspace. Hanger bays can be found in both the dorsal and ventral saucers. The bridge is located in the centre on top of the dorsal saucer and is surrounded by the triple ion cannon. Meanwhile, directly below on the ventral saucer is the sensor antennas, which are surrounded by the other triple ion cannon. Saucer rotation struts are found near the outer perimeter of both saucers, joining them together. These struts are located only at the ship's flanks. |
