The Stinger is a heavily modified Surronian Conqueror-class Assault Ship that somehow came into the possession of Prince Xizor, who then entrusted this elegant ship to underling, Guri. What deed Xizor carried out in order to receive this ship from an unknown Surronian craftsguild remains cloaked in secrecy. When Prince Xizor acquired this craft remains a mystery, but it is known that he owned it several years before Guri was confided with it. Its distinctive profile is strikes fear into the hearts of criminals throughout the Empire, especially to those who know the ship and its pilot. Guri employs this well-serving craft as a mobile base of operations while commanding Xizor's various paramilitary organizations, basic transport, and smuggling ship for precious items for her master. Guri, unlike most captains harbours no sentiment towards the Stinger, as she views it as a mere instrument to further the Black Sun's goals. Manoeuvring jets are omitted from the Stinger, since its onboard computer system allows the pilot to individually adjust each engine's exhaust nozzle, which results in enhanced manoeuvrability. A set of four emergency braking jets (mounted on the forward wings) were installed by Guri, so that pursuers would overshoot the Stinger and became the hunted, when Guri applied the braking jets. An advanced MicroThrust computer monitors the Stinger's internal systems; it automatically reroutes power and activates reserve systems in the event of a considerable system overload, thereby allowing freeing the pilot to concentrate on combat and piloting. To further assist Guri in Black Sun business, the Stinger's communications package has been beefed-up to better survey comm channels in-system in order to provide hints of the activities of allies and foes that might be encountered. Also, the sensor system has been altered for vastly improved efficiency. Situated behind the cockpit which fits the pilot and passengers is a tiny emergency escape pod. Behind the neck (which holds the entry ramp) is the main cargo hold, which is small by light freighter standards due to it being cut short by the overflowing engineering spaces. Much of the rear portion of the ship is consumed by the large power core, modified shield generators and capacitors, and reserve engine modules. Creature amenities come at a premium as there are no crew quarters, but there is a small refresher and old foodstuffs on hand. However, in the event where passengers need to be accommodated, portions of the cargo hold can be modified to fill this requirement. To prevent theft of her ship, Guri installed several security measures, including an auto-destruct that links the power core to the cockpit. Thus, those foolish enough to endeavour to steal the Stinger will find themselves in an explosive situation. |
