The Authority IRD is a swift and heavily armed starfighter, however, it is designed specifically for space combat. Similar to the TIE series, it lacks a hyperdrive unit, but it features powerful engines and capable weapons. However, unlike the standard TIE series, every effort was attempted to protect the pilot. On the other hand, like the TIE series, the lack of hyperdrives on these fighters forces the CSA's Picket Fleet to ferry these fighters to every engagement. The Corporate Sector Authority designed this unique fighter to fit the various mission profiles of the Picket Fleet's mandate. Original IRD models were so unaerodynamic and ill-handling that many pilots refused to engage enemy craft within an atmospheric situation, which would later lead to the development of the IRD-A. These combat dedicated fighters have been stolen by criminals to serve as defence fighters for shadowports; an example of this is the Tenloss Syndicate's use of these fighters at the Vergesso Asteroids Shadowport.
