The Tapani-class Assault Frigate can be found in the employ of many of the Tapani houses and Freeworlds of the Tapani Sector as the primary capital ship in their respective navies. Those frigates in the service of a Tapani house bears its crest. Most are named after planets or cities controlled by the house they serve. Its primary function is that of patrolling the space lanes, discouraging pirate activity and protecting the interests of their respective owners. The Tapani-class Frigate was in service before the Battle of Hoth.

    Only its superstructure which is constructed at the Tallaan Shipyards is an original design. Its electronic matrix, weapons and engines however, are all acquired from other manufacturers which causes its inflated price tag. Although this arrangement creates another problem, a nightmare to replace damaged components, it nevertheless allows such a minute company to assemble such a large and complicated ship. Its oval shaped streamlined hull is randomly covered with viewports. Set in a diamond formation are the ship's four enormous ion engine exhaust ports. Situated near the ventral aft hull at 45 degree angles from each other are a pair of stabilizer fins. Near the middle dorsal portion of the Tapani Frigate is another stabilizer fin.

    House Cadriaan currently maintains six of these frigates, with orders for another seven which are due to see completion at the Tallaan dockyards over the next three years. House Barnaba possesses five Tapani Frigates, while House Pelagia has two. The compact navy of the planet of Aleron is led by three of these ships. Meanwhile, the planet of Mrlsst defence forces include two Tapani Frigates. Eight Tapani Frigates can be found in service with the planet of Neona. The planet of Tallaan leads in the number of Tapani Frigates in its possession, with 12 ships.
