The TIS Zeta 19 is designed to operate in planetary atmosphere or low-orbit, and in close starship support functions. This type of craft known by the nickname of "gig". Their streamline design makes them formidable atmospheric foes. For those who cannot afford starfighters, craft such as these fill out planetary or starship fighter complements. Due to their size, they can also serve in the personnel transport role; moving persons between large ships or between an orbiting ship to planetside. Compared to starfighters, gigs are low cost and feature common enough technology that permit modification to specific missions with extreme ease. This design was in service before the Battle of Yavin.
