Note : XA (Tech Library) states that Sienar Fleet Systems manufactures the IRD-A; this is possible since SFS is a subsidiary of Santhe/Sienar Technologies which is a voting sponsor of the CSA. Note that XA (Tech Library) incorrectly labels the IRD-A as the IRD. Also note that there are some slight physical differences between the IRD-A models presented in XA and HSCSSB***Pg 102.

The Authority IRD-A was designed due to the glaring deficiencies of the Authority IRD suffered from in atmospheric conditions. These deficiencies were even apparent to CSA executives, thus CSA engineers began the development of a streamlined variant designed specifically for atmospheric combat. Designed with powerful engines and very effective weaponry (thanks to the addition of missiles to the weapons package) the IRD-A is a difficult foe to combat against.

This three engine starfighter features a molded fuselage, streamlined to channel air through a vector stabilizer. The result has been increased atmospheric speed and enhanced manoeuvrability. These limited production run fighters are seeing limited service. However, the CSA is expected to begin full production of the solid IRD-A design in the near future. IRD-As were employed against Jessa's outlaw-tech band, but suffered defeat. Other engagements however, have produced favourable results. Somehow mercenary groups have obtained the IRD-A for their usage.
