With the ISD Intrepid stranded, since its hyperdrive engines were damaged and its replacement engines were destroyed in the last attack. The Rebels decided to undertake a bold plan to destroy the ISD Intrepid to thereby destroy any trace of the Rebels' success in stealing the Death Star plans. The first part of the attack plan was to isolate the ISD Intrepid by destroying the reinforcements send to guard the ISD. Once destroyed, a direct attack on the ISD would have a much better chance of succeeding. Red Squadron hypered into the area, with X-Wing Blue arriving a moment later. The X-Wing was to provide close starfighter escort for the Y-Wings. The ISD Intrepid was over 50 km away, while the Imperial reinforcements were 8 km away. Each of the Imperial corvettes had 3 Assault Gunboats accompanying them.

Farlander ordered X-Wing Blue to wait while Red Squadron built up their shields. Farlander targeted the nearest Assault Gunboat which was Mu 3 and as soon as the Rebels were fully charged, Farlander ordered his wingmen to attack Mu 3. Then he ordered their escort to resume. Farlander believed that if they could lure some of the Assault Gunboats away from the Imperial corvettes, they could destroy them more easily. Unfortunately, the Assault Gunboats fell for this plan. With the three Imperial corvettes, alone and without fighter escorts, Farlander took position outside of the weapons range of the corvettes. He cut his speed to zero and targeted the middle corvette, which was the lead vessel of the Vic formation and ordered his wingmen to do the same.

Farlander launched his proton torpedoes as soon as he had a lock, then he targeted the next corvette and fired another pair of proton torpedoes at it. Farlander's wingmen each fired a pair of proton torpedoes as the first corvette and it was soon destroyed. Farlander targeted the third corvette and fired his remaining proton torpedoes at it, then retargeted the second corvette and ordered his wingmen to attack it. Farlander then switched back to lasers after his wingmen acknowledged his order. He made a final attack run on the third corvette, coming in at full speed. His wingmen finished off the last corvette on their own. X-Wing Blue was intrusive and did little to help, he constantly targeted the same ship as Farlander did and it led to Farlander being hit by friendly fire several times. X-Wing Blue did not have a single kill in this battle. Due to Captain Marskan's reckless actions in combat and endangering fellow Rebel ships he received an official reprimand.
