Rebel probes in this sector
had been tracking a large fleet of Imperial warships that were patrolling
the boarder. The Imperial Fleet was last spotted in an adjoining sector.
The Rebels had reason to believe that Imperial ships would be passing through
a nearby hyperspace transit point. The Rebels wanted to gauge the strength
of the Imperial Fleet passing through the area, inspect the Imperial Fleet
and destroy all cargo carrying vessels carrying warheads in the fleet,
in an attempt to buy themselves more time and to force the Imperial Forces
to resupply. The Rebels were already in the area waiting for the Imperial
Fleet when they came out of hyperspace to get to the hyperspace transfer
point. The Rebels begun their reconnaissance of the Imperial Fleet, in
response the Strike Cruiser Iron Hand launched its entire complement of
TIE Fighters, and the Nebulon-B2 Frigate Tupoleu launched 12 TIE Interceptors
to deal with the Rebels. The Imperial Fleet hypered into the area in stages.
Unfortunately, both squadrons were destroyed, with that brought a response
of Assault Gunboats to hyper into the area to eliminate the Rebels, but
the Assault Gunboats suffered heavy casualties. During the Rebels reconnaissance,
the Rebels destroyed all cargo carrying vessels carrying any warheads.
Throughout the Rebels' stay in the area, Imperial ships were hypering out
of the area to after they got to their jump point, but not before the Rebels
took sensor readings of the Imperial ships to determine their cargo. Nearing
the end of the Rebels' reconnaissance of the Imperial Fleet, a pair of
TIE Advanced from Avenger Squadron hypered into the area to chase them
off, but not before the Rebels were able to do a sensor scan of the SSD
Vengeance which was the last Imperial ship to arrive in the area. With
the SSD Vengeance in this sector and the rest of its fleet, this show of
Imperial power would not go unnoticed by the inhabitants of this sector
and would inspire fear in those who would otherwise assist the Rebel terrorists.
With an SSD in command of the fleet as the Rebels feared, the Empire would
not sit idly by and let the Rebels gain a foothold in this backwater sector.
With the SSD Vengeance in command of the fleet, the Rebels began to plan
their attempt to destroy the SSD Vengeance.
