Red Squadron was assigned to protect a military rendezvous from attack from Imperial starfighters. With news that the Empire is building a massive new type of secret weapon, Rebel High Command was anxious for the Rebel Alliance to prepare itself for a large decisive battle. Although the location of the Death Star was still unknown to the Rebels, they were making efforts to discover what military contractors had been involved in the Death Star's construction. The first break through in their effort was the capture of a freighter loaded with the latest military hardware. It was hoped by the Rebels that analysis of the equipment would reveal more about who was building the Death Star. The Rebels obtained the equipment from outlaw pirates. Red Squadron was assigned to protect the freighter and space containers loaded with the military equipment. The ISD Immortal was already in the area and was about 45 km away, but it had already launched TIE Fighters and TIE Bombers. The Rebel Corvette Frazier and the Freighter Sidral II was less than 1 km away from where Red Squadron hypered in. The Rebel corvette hypered into the area some moments after the start of the battle and proceeded to dock with the freighter.

    The closest Imperial fighters to the Rebels were two groups of TIE Fighters with Alpha at 4 km away and Beta at 8 km. Behind them were two groups of TIE Bombers with Gamma at 23 km away and Delta at 29 km away. Farlander ordered his wingman to attack the nearest TIE Fighter, which was Alpha 1. Farlander targeted Alpha 2 and destroyed him. After Red Squadron took out Alpha and Beta groups, the Rebels turned their attention on the TIE Bombers from Gamma group which were less than 12 km away. Fortunately the TIE Fighters, before they were destroyed  were able to destroy one of the space containers, but were not able to cause any damage to the freighter or to the Rebel corvette.

    As Farlander headed towards the TIE Bombers, he noticed replacement waves for the TIE Fighters that they destroyed had been launched. Farlander ordered his wingman to attack Gamma 2, while he took the leader. As soon as he had a solid lock he let off his concussion missile, then he targeted Gamma 3. Farlander's wingman destroyed Gamma 2 using a concussion missile, then both of the Rebels proceeded to engage Delta group with the same tactics. After destroying that TIE Bomber group, Red Squadron took up a position between the Rebel ships transferring cargo and the ISD, about 8 to 10 km from the Rebel cargo vessels. As soon as the transfer was completed and the Rebel corvette and freighter were safely in hyperspace, Red Squadron hypered out of the area, before the TIE Fighters could reach them.
