The Imperial Fleet was scouring
the sector for the Rebels, since their retreat into the Airam Sector. Rebel
High Command ordered the evacuation of the most vulnerable outposts close
to Imperial patrol routes and the outpost at Gelgelar was one of them.
Rogue Squadron and its support, Gold Squadron were deployed with Z-95 Headhunters,
which were common starfighters in the Gelgelar System to not arouse Imperial
suspicions. The two squadrons were to patrol the area around the base and
cover the escape of the Medium Transports. The first transport arrived
without incident and began its docking operations with the Rebel platform.
Without warning the VSD Stormhawk hypered into the area and began deploying
its TIEs, just after Medium Transport T-39, the last transport hypered
into the area. Rogue and Green Squadrons went to intercept, and then the
ISD Rage hypered into the area blocking the Rebels exit vector. The ISD
Rage deployed its TIEs with an addition of Avenger Squadron. Avenger Squadron
went after the transports while the TIE Bombers went after the platform.
During the battle, the TIE Bombers were eliminated and 12 Assault Gunboats
hypered in to attack the Rebel platform. The Rebels suffered heavy casualties
on all decks on the platform during the heavy bombardment it was subjected
to. The Rebel Medium Transports had to pass the ISD Rage to hyper out of
the area, Rogue Squadron prevented their destruction by hitting the ISD
with mag pulse torpedoes which temporarily disabled all the weapons on
the ISD. The Shuttle Raven, which was carrying the command staff for the
doomed Rebel outpost hypered into the area, just after Medium Transport
T-39 completed its docking operation with the platform. The shuttle hypered
out of the area shortly before Medium Transport T-39 did so. After the
destruction of the Assault Gunboats and the unfortunate successful Rebel
evacuation from the platform Assault Transports and Escort Shuttles were
launched to take the platform. The Rebels were able successfully escape
destruction by Imperial Forces at this battle and were also able to eliminate
all Imperial starfighters that were deployed at the battle.
