Rebel High Command had demanded that all Rebel units search for evidence where the Death Star was being constructed. Rebel Intelligence was able to identify a key Imperial supply and repair base which was being used by ships going to and from where the Death Star project. Rebel General Dodonna devised a plan to learn where the Death Star project was located by rendering the Imperial supply repair base unusable so when the next Imperial ship arrived for repairs it would become stranded so it could be captured intact. Red Squadron was given X-Wings for this battle since Red Squadron's Y-Wing group had recently taken some bad losses. The X-Wings came out of hyperspace less than 4 km from the Imperial base. Before reaching the base, Farlander ordered Red Squadron to a full stop so they could charge their shields fully while they planning their initial attack run.
The space containers that made up the base were arranged in the outline of an arrowhead, with four space containers along the sides and three space containers at the base. Farlander ordered his wingmen to attack the space containers at the base of the formation. Meanwhile he would take out the space mines. As Farlander proceeded through the minefield, he constantly kept transferring power from the lasers to the shields and every so often he would rebalance his shields. When ever his wingmen destroyed their target, Farlander's R2 would inform him, so he could assign his wingmen new targets. As soon as Farlander had destroyed all of the mines, he brought his throttle down to a third and started to destroy the space containers himself.
The BFF-1 Freighters Diputs
1 and Diputs 2 arrived by the time the Rebel had destroyed over
half of the base. Farlander ordered his wingmen to destroy one while he
would destroy the other. He fired all of his proton torpedoes at the freighter
he targeted as soon as he had a lock. After which he switched back to lasers
and helped out his wingmen finish off the first freighter. The Rebels had
just finished destroying the Imperial base when the Imperial Nebulon-B
Frigate Priam dropped out of hyperspace. Gart was killed when he
was rammed by the Imperial frigate as it was decelerating from its hyperspace
jump. With nothing he could do, Farlander and his remaining wingman hypered
out of the area to safety.
