After the Rebels' last defeat, they were attempting to strike back at the Imperial Task Force. Upon recognizing that Imperial tactics depended on the use of an Interdictor, the Rebels were going to attempt to eliminate the Interdictor Cruiser Compellor. The Rebels using their standard attack profile of missile armed fighters in front with the heavy fighters behind hypered into the system. Avenger Squadron intercepted the lead elements of the Rebel strike force, which was the Rebel's A-Wings, while Beta and Gamma Squadrons engaged the B-Wings. The Rebels were able to let off several volleys of proton torpedoes at the Interdictor, but it was only sufficient to damage the Imperial vessel's shields. None of the Rebel strike force survived the battle. A number of Rebel pilots survived the destruction of their craft and were rescued by the Empire for interrogation.
