With the ISD Intrepid stranded and its defensive escort shield destroyed, Rebel High Command felt that this was the perfect time for the first direct starfighter assault on an Imperial capital ship. Unfortunately, a Rebel Technical Staff discovered the Imperial Star Destroyers' weakness, which were the shield generator domes. With this weakness in mind, Farlander was the pilot chosen to destroy the shield generators of the ISD Intrepid due to him being one of the Rebellion's best pilots. The entire Rebel attack depended on the ISD's shield generators being destroyed by Farlander. Gold Squadron was escorting Red Squadron, while Blue Squadron would make the proton torpedo attack on the ISD. The Rebels hypered into the area, with the ISD Intrepid being just under 16 km away. Farlander redirected all of his shield power to the engines while he set his cannon recharge rate to maximum, to allow him to maintain a constant speed of 100 MGLT. However, Farlander had to constantly transfer power from his lasers to his shields.
The first attack wave of Blue Squadron was already ahead of Red and Gold Squadrons and TIE Fighters were moving to intercept the 4 Y-Wings. Farlander ordered Jan-lo to attack the nearest of the TIE Fighters, which was Alpha 1. Gold Squadron arrived and quickly went to the aid of Blue Squadron as well. TIE Fighter Alpha 2 was directly between Farlander and the ISD Intrepid, so Farlander destroyed him in a head-on pass. He noticed that Alpha 3 was on his wingman's tail so he changed course and destroyed the TIE Fighter. By now Farlander was about 6 km away from the ISD Intrepid, and TIE Bomber Gamma 1 was directly head of him and was preparing to launch a concussion missile. Farlander closed the distance and both of them fired at each other simultaneously. Farlander's shields took a beating and the TIE Bomber survived, but only momentarily, as Jan-lo finished him off when he turned away. Continuing toward the ISD, Farlander could see that Blue 1 and 2 had been destroyed. A concussion missile from Gamma 2 caught Jan-lo with her shields too low and she was gone. But unfortunately she survived and was later recovered and brought back to Rebel forces. Raider destroyed the TIE Bomber, however he was too late.
A replacement wave of TIE Bombers were launched as Farlander was preparing to make his attack run on the ISD's shield generators. He approached from the port side, maneuvering to bring both shield generators in line so he could get them both in a single pass. His R2 Unit warned him of an incoming concussion missile, but he ignored it. Farlander launched the first pair of proton torpedoes at the nearest shield generator, then quickly lined up on the second. Farlander was hit by two concussion missiles just as he fired a pair of proton torpedoes. He lost he rear shields and took some damage to the hull, but he quickly rebalanced his shields and transferred energy. Farlander was practically on top of the ISD, as he swung around and took aim at the first shield generator. He fired the proton torpedo, however it went low and went under the shield generator dome. Using his last proton torpedo, he fired it point blank at the second shield generator and destroyed it. Farlander transferred energy to his shields as he switched back to his lasers and swung around to destroy the last shield generator.
An occasional shot from
the ISD Intrepid and the constant target locks from the TIE Bombers
were making it difficult for Farlander. It took him to runs to destroy
the shield generator with his lasers. With both shield generators destroyed,
the shields on the ISD dropped. Two TIE Interceptors had launched during
Farlander's torpedo run on the ISD's shield generators. Farlander jointed
Gold Squadron in engaging the TIE Interceptors and TIE Bombers. The last
Y-Wing eventually was destroyed while firing the last of its proton torpedoes
at the ISD, but another wave of 4 Y-Wings arrived to continue the assault
on the ISD. Farlander kept the TIEs occupied while Blue Squadron closed
in on the ISD Intrepid. Their attack unfortunately succeeded and
the ISD Intrepid began to break up as it was wracked by explosions.
Four Assault Gunboats arrived, but far too late to save the ISD Intrepid,
and they were witness to its destruction. Blue Squadron headed back to
base, while Farlander and Gold Squadron destroyed the remaining TIEs. When
the Rebels destroyed the four Assault Gunboats, another wave of them arrived
and with that the Rebel decided to leave.
